About

Self portrait

I am an interdisciplinary artist; I work primarily with paper as a sculptural form because of its delicate and vulnerable, yet resilient quality. Most of my work is inspired by the primordial imagery seen in dreams and fairytales. This visual language helps me convey personal experiences surrounding themes of mortality, femininity, sexuality and the passage of time through archetypal narratives. I am especially interested in how we perceive the passage of time within dreams; within dreams I can allow myself to explore the idea of a conscious immortality without objective restraint.

I use layers of cut paper to create intricate worlds that reflect inner unconscious processes. These worlds are set in the darkness and peace that is eternity; death is represented by fluidity, that which continues endlessly, such as in a dream, where time is experienced in a ubiquitous way, as an emotion.

My current body of work focuses on narrative and interaction between multiple individual works, making connections through symbolism associated with the mother archetype and other feminine principles. I am inspired by the book arts, in particular the tunnel book format, which allows one to view a series of panels from multiple points of view, thus allowing the viewer to have some control over the narrative.
